The New Opera thus emerged as a natural professional further development of the initiative behind the Southwest Jutland Opera Ensemble. Since its establishment in 1999, Den Ny Opera has produced 2 adult performances each year, with a premiere at Musikhuset Esbjerg and subsequent tours around the country's theater associations. Plus an annual performance for children, which was played in schools and theaters across the country. The repertoire: Opera - from Handel and Mozart with original instruments in the orchestra over Wagner's masterpiece Nibelungens Ring to newly written musical drama for adults and not least - for children.

Remarkable, of course, is the production of Richard Wagner's gigantic opera tetralogy The Ring of the Nibelung - 15 hours of opera divided into four performances, which together form the absolute masterpiece of nineteenth-century musical drama. The New Opera carried out, in collaboration with the South Jutland Symphony Orchestra, the production of The Ring in the years 2003-2008 and thus seriously established its name as a serious player on the Danish opera scene.
